Change your credit card in Microsoft account

If you want to change your credit card in Microsoft account such as changing email or

phone number. Manage all your credit card and other payment info for your Microsoft account in one place. 

  1. Sign in to account.microsoft.com.
  2. Select the app launcher icon Office 365 app launcher icon in the upper-left and choose Admin.
  3. In the admin center, choose Billing > Subscriptions.
  4. When you change from paying by invoice to paying by credit card or bank account, we automatically create a new subscription for you, move your users to the new subscription, and then disable your old subscription. Don’t worry, your users won’t see a disruption in service and all of their information will be available through the new subscription.

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account as a global admin. Learn how to sign in.
  2. Select the app launcher icon Office 365 app launcher icon in the upper-left and choose Admin.
  3. In the admin center, choose Billing > Subscriptions.

  6. In the Change your payment method dialog box, choose Continue.The notice that displays when you switch from invoice to credit card or bank account payment.
  7. On the How does this look? page, you can optionally increase the number of users licenses that you want for this subscription. To continue, choose Next.
  8. Some subscriptions have the option to choose a monthly or annual commitment. If you see a choice to pay by the year or by the month on the How do you want to pay? page, choose how frequently you want to pay.The Payment method section on the How do you want to pay? page, showing the Pay by the year and Pay by the month options.
  9. In the Payment method list, select either Existing card, New credit card, or New bank account.The Payment method section on the How do you want to pay? page, with the payment option drop-down box expanded.
  10. If you chose the New credit card or New bank account option in step 9, fill out the rest of your payment information.
  11. When you’re done filling out the form, choose Place order.

When you return to the Subscriptions page, you will see the old subscription marked Disabled and the new one marked Active. You can let the old subscription expire.

 

Change from credit card or bank account to invoice

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account as a global admin. Learn how to sign in.
  2. Select the app launcher icon Office 365 app launcher icon in the upper-left and choose Admin.
  3. In the admin center, choose Billing > Subscriptions.

  5. In the Change payment details pane, choose Change your payment method.

  6. In the Change your payment method dialog box, choose Continue.The notice that displays when you switch from credit card or bank account to invoice payment.
  7. Choose OK to return to the admin center.

Verify which payment method is configured

You can use the following steps at any time to verify the payment method that’s configured for a subscription.

  1. Sign in to Office 365 with your work or school account as a global admin. Learn how to sign in.
  2. Select the app launcher icon Office 365 app launcher icon in the upper-left and choose Admin.
  3. In the admin center, choose Billing > Subscriptions.
  4. Choose the subscription that you want to verify. The payment method that’s configured for the subscription appears under Payment method and might look like one of the following screenshots:

Settle an outstanding balance that has been declined

How to Settle an outstanding balance that has been declined in MSN Account?

Open your browser and go to My Account Page and sign in with your username and password.

Check these common causes of declined payments:

  • The credit card available balance is insufficient to cover the amount due.
  • Try this: Verify that the available balance on your credit card is sufficient to cover the outstanding balance you are trying to pay.
  • The credit card has expired.
  • Try this: Check the expiration date on your card to make sure it’s current.
  • There are spaces, commas or non-numeric characters in the credit card number.
  • Try this: Retype the credit card number without any spaces, commas, or other non-numeric characters.
  • Billing address, name or expiration date entered incorrectly.
  • Try this: Verify that the billing address, expiration date, and name on your credit card are correct.
  • The credit card may not be activated.
  • If you are using a new credit card, verify that the credit card has been activated.

If none of the above reasons corrected the error, these are your next steps:

  • Contact your bank to ask why authorization is failing.OR
  • Add a different credit card.

I receive an error while trying to update my credit card expiration date or change my credit card?

First, open your browser and go to My Account Page

and sign in with your username and password. Now, check for these common reasons for errors:

  • There are spaces, commas or non-numeric characters in the credit card number.
  • Try this: Retype the credit card number without any spaces, commas, or other non-numeric characters.
  • The credit card may not be activated.
  • Try this: If you are using a new credit card, verify that the credit card has been activated.
  • Billing address, Name or expiration date entered incorrectly.
  • Try this: Verify that the billing address, expiration date, and name on your credit card are correct.
  • The credit card has expired.
  • Try this: Check the expiration date on your card to make sure that it’s current.
  • The credit card available balance is insufficient to cover the amount due.
  • Try this: Verify that the available balance on your credit card is sufficient enough to cover the outstanding balance you’re trying to pay.

If none of the above reasons corrected the error, these are your next steps:

  • Contact your bank to ask why authorization is failing.

How to Change Microsoft payment option pay for a subscription

After you’ve added or updated a payment option, you can change the payment option that you use to pay for your Office 365 subscription, as well as manage automatic renewal, switch subscriptions, and more.

  1. Sign in to the Services & subscriptions page with the Microsoft account associated with your Office 365 subscription.

  3. In the Change how you pay drop-down list, do one of the following:
    • Choose a different payment option. The Pay with section updates to show that your subscription now uses the new payment option.
    • Choose Add a new way to pay, and continue to the next step.

    NOTE: Some countries/regions might have different options.

  5. On the next page, choose Back to subscriptions. Your subscription is now ready to use the payment option you selected.The confirmation after a new payment option is selected.
